Guided Imagery
Guided Imagery is a kind of highly focused daydream—a way to use your imagination very specifically to help mind and body heal, stay strong, and even become more creative and productive. Almost every person possesses the tools needed to do this: attention, intention, will, and most important—imagination.

Imagination is simply a way of thinking that uses sensory information for processing, consisting of thoughts that can be seen, heard, smelled, tasted, or sensed in some way in your mind.

Guided imagery is directed: it can be used for your health, based on the proven premise that when your mind is focused on healing, your body responds.

How does it work?
Imagery is closely tied to our emotions, and emotions can help or hinder us in our efforts to heal, because they produce physiological changes. In fact, imagery has been shown to affect almost every major physiological control system in the body, including breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, metabolic rates, digestive functions, and perhaps most importantly, immune—system response. It has been shown to increase both the numbers and aggressiveness of natural killer cells, reduce complications from surgery, relieve pain and stress, and reduce adverse effects of chemotherapy. Basically, the human brain is the world’s greatest pharmacy, making chemicals that control most of the trillions of functions going on in our bodies all the time.

Types of Guided Imagery Conducted at Triune

  • Feeling-State Imagery – This is a mood-shifting imagery; it can help you shift to a state of optimism, generosity, confidence and courage; improve attitudes in relationships; conquer anxiety.
  • End-State Imagery – Also known as Final-State Imagery, this allows you to image yourself already in the condition or circumstances that you hope to experience.
  • Energetic Imagery - Follows ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic ideas about health.
  • Cellular Imagery – Probably the most extensively researched kind of imagery; addresses events in the body at a cellular level.
  • Physiological Imagery – Involves the life-size, as opposed to microscopic/cellular physical processes in the body.
  • Metaphoric Imagery – Metaphor provides a speedy, powerful way for an image to travel through the body-mind. It can have a profound influence, because symbols, by their very nature, affect body and soul together.
  • Psychological Imagery – Imagery that shifts our perception of ourselves. It can help us deal with long-standing psychological dilemmas or some temporary emotional turmoil.
  • Spiritual Imagery – Imagery that aims directly for connection with God, or for an opening into a larger world that extends beyond our concrete, everyday reality.

Guided Imagery sessions are conducted in TRIUNE’s beautiful meditation studio; we provide mats, zabutons, blankets, pillows and music. They are approximately 60 minutes each and the fee is $90. Sessions in your home or office can be arranged for an additional charge.
